Cosenza — 1990–2000
The building housing the new headquarters of the Financial Offices of Cosenza is the result of a lengthy design process that evolved over several years through numerous revisions. The final design fully meets the requirements of the new organizational structure of the Italian Ministry of Finance, particularly those of its two newly established agencies: the Revenue Agency and the Land Registry Agency.
The complex is located in the lower part of the city of Cosenza, along the ancient Via Popilia, a Roman road that represents the city's principal axis of urban development, where the new building establishes itself as one of the area's defining architectural landmarks.
The building occupies a rectangular site and is composed of two linear wings running parallel to the public street, together with an octagonal tower positioned at the corner, recalling the polygonal layout of Cosenza's Norman old town. At the heart of the building, a striking glass pyramid creates a dramatic architectural space linking the two wings.
